This exciting outdoor game provides kids with plenty of exercise as they put their speed and agility to the test. What’s more, they’ll build valuable social skills and burn off energy!
Top tip!To make British bulldog a non-contact game, get the players to tuck a piece of colourful material into one of their pockets for the bulldog/s to try and grab.
About the activity
Head outside to a large, safe open space and decide on two distinct points for players to run to and from – around 30m to 50m apart will work well.
One player is the bulldog and stands in the middle of the game area, and the other players line up along the start point. When the bulldog shouts “British bulldog 1, 2, 3” all the players must run to the end point without being tagged (touched) by the bulldog.
Any players who get tagged become bulldogs themselves for the next round. They collectively shout “British bulldog 1, 2, 3” and, once again, the chase is on as the players attempt to run back across the game area, avoiding the bulldogs.
The game continues in this way until there is only one player remaining – the winner! For the next game, the winner starts as the bulldog.
