This game is designed to help children with listening and reacting to music in a social environment. It will help them with building the social development skills needed to accept that not every player/turn wins a prize.

Include a few added surprise gifts in-between some of the layers of wrapping paper. These should be small (to keep children guessing as to whether the next layer is the final layer!); such as a pen or a lollipop, but will keep kids engaged as they anticipate what might happen as they peel the paper away.

About the activity
Preparation: Place a gift at the centre of the parcel, wrapping it in several layers of wrapping paper and hiding small gifts between some of the layers.
Sit children in a circle facing inwards, out of eyesight of the person controlling the music. Children pass the parcel to the person on their right while the music is playing. When the music stops, the person holding the parcel tears off a layer of wrapping.
Restart the music after each layer is unwrapped. Continue playing until the last layer is unwrapped and the gift inside revealed.
