Top tip!
‘Simons’ should carry out every action. This will help confuse the players. For example, if you perform all the actions while saying ‘Simon says look left, Simon says look right, look left’, some kids may copy all the actions. But, of course, the last action shouldn’t have been obeyed because it didn’t start with ‘Simon says’.
Steps
1
An adult can take on the role of ‘Simon’ or one of the children can lead. ‘Simon’ should stand in front of the group and shout commands for actions, such as ‘Simon says hop on one leg’, ‘Simon says wiggle your hips’ or ‘Stick out your tongue’. An action that begins with ‘Simon says…’ must be obeyed. An action that doesn’t start with ‘Simon says…’ shouldn’t be.
2
If someone follows an action that doesn’t start with ‘Simon says…’ they are out. Even if they don’t complete the action but start to move to do it, they’re still out. Players are also out if they don’t follow an action that began with ‘Simon says’, however absurd it is!
3
The winner is the last person left in, at which point the last player could have a quick-fire round with ‘Simon’ to see if Simon can catch them out. Then they get to become the all-powerful Simon!
