Step 1
In small groups, children sit in a circle and each lay out six different coloured LEGO bricks, one after the other, in any order, inside the circle.
Step 2
The first child counts their bricks 1 to 6, and the next child continues, 7-12, and so on.
Step 3
Now all agree on a colour, for example green. Count all of the bricks again, but this time all of the green bricks are ‘silent’ counts. That means children must count in their heads and not aloud when they reach a green brick.
Step 4
Ask the children what they think is hard or easy about this activity? How do they stay focused when counting? What other rules can they come up with for this game?
