In France tag is called jeu du loup, which means ‘wolf game’.
About the activity
The rules are simple in this all-time favourite children’s game! Get the children to gather in an open outdoor space. Decide which player will start the game as “It”, and have all the other players spread out. The “It” must then chase the other players in an attempt to touch one with their hand and shout ‘”Tag!”. As soon as someone else is tagged, they become the “It” and must try and catch another player. To make the game more challenging, you might like to add a rule that players cannot immediately tag the person who just tagged them. Let the chase begin!
Some fun variations of the game:
Once someone is tagged they have to freeze with their arms out. An active player can unfreeze them by running round them in a circle and giving a high-five.
You can only tag someone by tapping their knee.
Set a hula hoop on the ground, or choose a tree or a bench. Alternatively, pick a material like wood, stone or metal. Whatever you choose, if you are touching it you are safe and cannot be tagged.
