Step 1:
Working independently or in groups, kids combine their bricks and think of ways to build a bridge over a ‘river’. Use a piece of blue material or paper on the floor for kids to imagine is the river.
Step 2:
Give the children time to discuss and plan how they will span the river.
Step 3:
Allow the children time to build the bridge. Warn them when time is almost up.
Step 4:
Test the strength of each bridge using a toy or a book.
Variation:
Complete steps 1-4, but this time kids build a bridge across a 10cm gap between two chairs. Let them re-evaluate their bridge and discuss what to change to improve their build.
