Circus shows have a special place in the hearts of youngsters – and children love to practise their own versions of the acts! Not only will they have a huge amount of fun putting on their own show, they will build confidence and self-esteem. Encourage a group of kids to get creative together and play around with different ideas.

About the activity
Help your child/children to gather a range of props and put them in the centre of an area outside. Get them to think about the kind of performances they’d watch at a circus show – how could they make up their own version? There are lots of possibilities, from acrobatics, hula hopping and juggling, to dance routines and clowning around with funny moves! They could even create a tightrope just off the ground and practise walking along it. Encourage them to decorate their show area, too, with things such as posters, balloons and ribbons. They could even wear fancy dress costumes!
