A lovely bubbly activity with very young kids helps with early visual tracking skills, sound production and, when they start to blow bubbles, their oral motor development, too. Chasing after the bubbles also improves muscle tone, spatial awareness and balance. Most importantly, blowing bubbles is always fun for all ages!

Top tip!
You can make a small bubble wand by bending the top of a pipe cleaner into a circle and wrapping the end around the stem.

500 ml warm water
125 ml washing up liquid
Optional
2 tbsp glycerine
Wire coat hanger
String
Bucket
About the activity
If you would like to make your own bubble mixture, start by pouring the warm water into a jug. Add the washing up liquid and glycerine (optional), and stir gently without creating any froth. Let the solution cool and then it’s ready for wands to be dipped in and bubbles to begin!
You can also make a jumbo bubble wand by bending a wire coat hanger into a shape. Wrap string around the frame and fix it with a knot. Mix up double the amount of bubble mixture and put it in a bucket. Dip the jumbo wand into the potion and wave it through the air instead of blowing through it.
Encourage your child to be as creative as possible by making different bubble shapes. And add to the fun by seeing who can blow the biggest bubble!
