Equipment needed
- Lard (room temperature)
- Bird seed
- Mixing bowl
- Spoon
- Sharp knife (requires adult supervision)
- Oranges
- Ribbon or string (about 1 metre in length)
Steps
1
With the help of an adult, cut the lard into pieces and place in a mixing bowl. Next, pour bird seed into the bowl and stir until the seeds are thoroughly mixed in with the lard. Carefully cut the oranges in half and use a spoon to scoop out the flesh. You can eat this later.
2
Using the knife, carefully pierce a small hole in either side of each orange half. Thread the ribbon through both holes and tie a knot to secure.
3
Scoop the lard mixture into the orange halves, using the back of your spoon to pack it in firmly. Hang up your bird feeder in your garden, balcony or nearby park.
