About the activity
Help the children to choose where to build their den. If you’re making a den in the garden, perhaps peg sheets to tree branches to create a makeshift tent, and lay blankets and cushions on the ground so that it’s extra‐cosy. You could also provide some activities for the children to enjoy inside – some pens and paper, a pile of books, boardgames etc.
If you’re making an indoor den, two or three chairs can provide the perfect structure, or a large table with a sheet over it. Children will love being part of the building process, so why not get them to help? What ideas do they have?
Encourage them to talk about what their den might be, too. A fort? A spaceship? An underground cavern? Let their den transport them to their own world of exciting imaginative play!
