This activity is a fun and simple craft project with striking results. Not only can the eggs be used as Easter decorations, but for Christmas ornaments and party decorations, too. This is a very creative activity but also teaches kids control, as they’ll have to be careful not to squash the eggs when they decorate them!

About the activity
Blow out an eggshell. You can do this by poking two holes in an egg with a pin – one at the top, and a slightly larger one at the bottom. Blow hard into the smaller hole until all the white and yolk has come out. Rinse and then let the egg dry out. You can now decorate it with patterns, fun faces or by sticking things to it. Below are a few ideas for fun projects!
Make a box full of chicks:
Paint your eggs a bright colour. Add some googly eyes. Stick a triangle of yellow paper under the eyes for a beak. Stick two feathers either side of the egg (or two more triangles of paper) for wings. Place the six eggs in an empty egg box and show off your carton of chicks.
Make a Christmas ornament:
Using acrylic paint, cover the egg in a single colour. Then add stickers or cut out paper decorations, e.g. snowflakes, to place on top of this. Contrasting colours work the best. You can also roll the eggs in glue and then glitter. Thread ribbon or wire through the two holes used to blow the egg and leave a loop at the top for attaching it to the tree.
Decorate Easter eggs:
Using brightly coloured paints, create lots of pretty patterned Easter eggs to find in an Easter egg hunt. Try stripes, spots, stars and multi-coloured designs. These are a great alternative to hunting for chocolate eggs, and mean lots less sugar!
