This activity can be enjoyed wherever there are trees – the garden, park, forest, pathways etc. Place a white piece of paper on the trunk of a tree, making sure the bark is dry. Then simply rub over the paper with a pencil, pastel or crayon, so that the bark creates an interesting pattern on the page.
Encourage the children to keep an eye out for fascinating shapes and details on the trees around them. What different patterns can they make? They can use lots of different colours, too, to make their artwork more exciting!
