Step 1
Children sit or stand in pairs, back to back. They are each given the exact same amount, colour and type of LEGO bricks.
Step 2
One child builds a model out of their bricks. They then describe this model to their partner, explaining how they built it.
Step 3
Without looking or asking questions, the partner must try and recreate the same model.
Step 4
Now it’s time to compare the models and discuss how it went. What differences can you see? Which instructions were the most clear and helpful?
Step 5
Swap roles and repeat the activity. Which role did the children find most difficult?
Variation: Try the activity again, but this time, instead of describing their model, the child who built it can only say ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Their partner must recreate the model by asking questions about it, such as ‘Is the bottom brick red?’
