About the activity
One player crouches down, putting their hands on the knees and dipping their head forward. They are the still frog. A second player runs up, places their hands gently on the crouched player’s back and leaps over them, opening their legs wide like a frog. The leaping frog then crouches down into the still position and the other player springs up and leaps over them. If there are more than two players, get them to create a line of still frogs for the leaper to jump over, with the child at the back of the line always being the next player to go. They can add to fun by making funny frog noises as they play, too!
This vintage game can be adapted to suit the age of the players. Younger children can make a smaller still frog shape by adopting a lower crouch pose, kneeling and bending forwards, tucking their head down and covering it with their arms. Older children can simply bend their knees and fold their body over, making a higher obstacle to leap over.
