Children will need a concrete or tarmac playground to play snail space. Draw a giant spiral, like a snail’s shell, on the ground with chalk. Mark the centre with a star – this is ‘home’ – and divide the rest of the spiral into spaces/segments with chalk lines. The children then take turns to play the game one at a time. Starting at the outside edge of the spiral, players hop on one leg along the spaces, trying not to touch the lines. Once they reach ‘home’, they turn around and hop back through the spiral to where they started. If they make it there and back without landing on any lines, they get to choose one of the spaces and write the first letter of their name inside it. The next player then takes their turn – but they must hop over/avoid any space with a letter in it. Players continue the game until there is an initial in each space. The person who has their letter in the most number of spaces at the end wins!
