Top tip!
To make the game more tricky, set out obstacles for players to move around. And for extra giggles, have spectators spray water pistols at the players!
Equipment needed
- Table spoons – one for each racer (or team)
- Tall cups – one for each racer (or team)
- Bucket of water – or one per team
- Table (optional)
About the activity
On a grassy area outside set up two stations, ideally around 10m to 20m apart – the greater the distance, the harder the game will be! At one station, place a large bucket of water – you can use just one large bucket, or place a series of buckets in a line (one per player/team of players). At the other station, set out a table with one cup per player/team of players.
On the word go, the players must use their spoon to carry water from the bucket to their cup as quickly as possible. If playing in teams, players take it in turns, passing the spoon to the next team member after they’ve had their go.
The first player or team to fill their cup wins the game! It may be worth marking a “full/finish” line on the cups to give players a clear target to reach.
The kids will soon learn that speed isn’t everything – sometimes, taking your time can be much more effective!
